The amazing story of Devon Carrow-Sperduti and his perseverance (10 Photos)

7-year-old Devon Carrow-Sperduti has potentially fatal allergies and
so he must spend most of his life at home in isolation. Even one day in
school can kill him, so instead he sends a special VGo robot that is
linked to his home computer. The face of the boy appears via webcam on
the robot and the boy can see the class, the teachers and his classmate
via the robot’s frontal camera. The robot has its own desk in the
classroom and can volunteer to answer the teacher’s questions with a
flashing light, rather than Devon raising his hand. Devon’s mother, Rene
said the robot is the ideal solution to her son’s debilitating
condition. She said: ‘Devon has so many allergies that can be fatal to
him, many of them are airborne, and we just can’t risk his life by
letting him mix with other children. ‘If my elder son, Dylan,
occasionally has friends over to the house, they have to shower and
scrub down like they’ve been exposed to radiation.

Devon’s school classmates have been quick to embrace Devon. They
speak to him through his robot during class and even walk through the
halls with him. And his classmates made get-well-soon cards for him
after a near fatal allergic reaction, for which he was hospitalized
several times, drawing pictures of him as a boy, not a robot.
